SYDNEY — "More than 3700 police from four regions arrested more than 800 people following Operation Supervikings", stated a NSW Police press release issued on May 29.
The three-day operation ending May 29 targeted people in Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
Apart from one high-profile arrest for marijuana cultivation, all of the 975 other charges were for petty offences, such as the use of "offensive" language.
The precise cost of the operation has not been released, but the government has allocated $20 million for Vikings operations over four years. Another Supervikings operation will be conducted around the end of June.
