School Strike 4 Climate released the following statement on July 3.

On Friday September 20, three days before world leaders meet in New York for the United Nations Emergency Climate Summit, school strikers, together with our friends, communities and families, are holding our biggest Global Climate Strike yet.

Everyone is invited and everyone is needed as we build the biggest social movement the world has ever seen to tackle the climate crisis.

We often get asked by adults if it’s OK for them to participate in our strikes.

The answer is a resounding “Yes!” While the school strike movement is and always will be student led, the climate crisis affects all of us. This crisis is already and will continue to disproportionately impact upon working-class people and frontline communities. It is the same unjust system driving the climate crisis that is also hurting workers.

This is why we’ve created a Worker Participation Guide for September 20.

If you are an adult or a worker, have a read of the guide and then why not:

  • Host a workplace conversation about September 20 with your colleagues;
  • Talk with your union branch about how you can organise around September 20;
  • Invite friends over to your home for a kitchen table conversation about September 20 and how to mobilise your networks to come along; or
  • Post a workplace selfie on social media to build awareness of the #ClimateStrike.

To act at the scale that this crisis demands, it’s going to take all of us.

We invite everyone to join us on September 20 and beyond.

We stand in solidarity with everyone on the frontline of the climate crisis and everyone who will be affected by the changes that this crisis demands — workers, First Nations peoples, mining communities, those whose homes and livelihoods are already impacted by climate change and those whose will be.

It is time for all of us to work together to take on the unjust systems hurting people and the planet.

See you on September 20!
