Under-15 year olds forced to sign AWAs

According to an October 19 media release from the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), workers under the age of 15 are now signing Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs — individual work contracts) under the Howard government’s Work Choices legislation, which came into effect at the end of March.

In a September 25 appeal to the international community to act to end the humanitarian disaster in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the UN envoy on Palestinians’ human rights, John Dugard, pointed out: “In effect, the Palestinian people have been subjected to economic sanctions — the first time an occupied people has been so treated.”
