A great start to the year
By Jorge Jorquera
The first two issues of Green Left this year have had a boost in distribution thanks to sales by members of Resistance and the Democratic Socialist Party. Without any special campaign, Resistance and the DSP have increased their street sales this year by 25% compared to last years average.
The Brisbane branches have doubled their street sales of Green Left in comparison to their average last year — despite street sales being severely hampered by the City Council's campaign to ban selling in the Mall.
Brisbane Resistance and DSP are campaigning hard against this ban, but are also taking the opportunity to get out and sell Green Left in more and more varied places.
The Adelaide branches of Resistance and the DSP all last year led the push to increase street sales of Green Left. This year they have also started with a bang, with all members prioritising Green Left sales as a key political task. Resistance member Emma sold 152 copies of the year's second issue of Green Left (# 85)!
These increases in sales come even before the opening of campuses, where Resistance expects a further boost in Green Left distribution.
This increase in street sales bodes well for the future, especially when it is recalled that such distribution by Resistance and the DSP is only one of the ways that the paper gets around. Green Left is also circulated through subscriptions, sales at newsagents, bookshops and other centres and distribution by members of other groups and individual activists, including in many rural centres and towns.
