MELBOURNE — Following the passing of the Helms-Burton bill in the United States, which tightens the US embargo against Cuba, Latin American solidarity activists here held the first meeting of the End the Embargo campaign on March 17.

The campaign, which will be launched on April 19 with a showing of the award-winning Cuban film, Strawberry and Chocolate, will organise educational seminars on the history of the embargo and its impact.

A rally outside the US consulate is planned for July 26, the anniversary of the 1953 beginning of the struggle to overthrow the US-backed dictatorship in Cuba.

The meeting also decided to seek financial support and sponsorship for an advertisement in the Australian on July 26 condemning the blockade and its effects.

To get involved in the campaign, contact Allen Jennings on (03)9279 1788 b/h or 9455 1329 a/h.
