Rally to defend native title

SYDNEY — Around 400 people take part in a rally to defend Native Title in First Fleet Park, Circular Quay on December 6. The protest was organised by Campaign Against Racism to condemn the Coalition's Native Title Amendment Bill, (which had passed through the Senate with significant amendments the previous night) and also to commemorate United Nations International Human Rights Day.

Jenny Munro, chairperson of the Metropolitan Lands Council; Peter O'Brien from Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation; and Lee Willis, a Koori student from the University of Western Sydney addressed the crowd. Chanting "Dump Howard, not native title" and "Land rights not mining rights", the protesters marched to the PM's office where they were addressed by Meredith Burgmann, NSW Labor MLC and a speaker from the Campaign Against Racism.
