BRISBANE — "Separately, our voices are weak, together we are strong and can show that the majority of Australians are people of peace", Reverend David Pitman of the Wesley Mission told the 500 people who gathered on December 2 in King George Square for a candlelight vigil against the impending war in Iraq.
The vigil was organised by the Queensland Peace Network. Participants resolved to: oppose a US-led attack on Iraq, even if endorsed by the UN; support a diplomatic solution; and to oppose Australian support for an attack on Iraq.
People are asked to gather in King George Square at 5pm on the day the bombing starts, and again at noon on the following Saturday.
