MELBOURNE — Students occupied the Liberal Party's Victoria headquarters on June 2 in response to the federal government's proposed "voluntary student unionism" (VSU) legislation.

One of the protesters, Julia Dehm, said: "The Coalition has made it clear that what they want is to undermine the ability of students to politically organise, so today we will give them a very small taste of what it is like to be repressed".

The students plan to join others at Monash University in a student strike in the second week of semester.
