Fifty people rallied on September 4 to demand the federal government grant permanent protection to the Murugappan family, whose temporary visas are set to expire on September 22.
Without permanent protection the family is in danger of being forcibly returned to Sri Lanka where they will face persecution, torture and possibly death.
The crowd demanded that the family be returned to the Queensland town of Biloea, where the community wants them back.
The family is among more than 30,000 refugees in Australia at risk of deportation.
