Gather for Gaza mobilised 300 people at Coffs Harbour Jetty in a rally on May 19. The group is calling for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire and an end to Israel's brutal occupation of Palestine.
More than 25,000 children have been killed or injured since October “the equivalent of one child every ten minutes”, the group said.
A local Palestinian organiser told the rally: “All we hear from our politicians is that some people in Australia might feel unsafe”. He added that the media and politicians have “double standards” about safety and Palestinians are experiencing genocide.
Palestinian storyteller Assala Sayara also spoke out against Israel's occupation and siege of Gaza.
Wearing a traditional Palestinian “thobe,” that had belonged to her great aunt, she said the dress was older than the state of Israel.
“The children of Gaza are like any other children in this world,” she said.
Gather for Gaza has organised a number of actions, rallies and events since last October and is calling for more people to become involved.
