Refugee rights protests were held in Sydney on July 19, as part of a national day of action, to mark seven years since the then-Kevin Rudd Labor government sent the first refugees to offshore detention on Manus Island and Nauru. The Rudd government was also the first to implement a policy that no one who arrives via boat to seek asylum would be resettled in Australia.
Since this decision many refugees have been put on the "Fast Track" policy and denied permanent protection, thereby not being able to see or bring their families to Australia.
A group of refugees attended Sydney's rally from Refugees in Limbo and the Rohingya Women's Development Organization Australia.
