That's History: The Volunteer Graduate Scheme — In the early '50s, a small number of idealistic Australians went to Indonesia to live and work under local salaries and conditions. The first was Herb Feith, who pioneered what was to become the highly successful Australian Volunteers Abroad program. Munjong — Munjong features Ernie Dingo in the role of Gnyubri. Considerable controversy has surrounded the play, which deals with racial tension in a country town. Soon after its opening in the Hole-in-the-Wall Theatre in Perth, two of the Aboriginal actors were held at gunpoint by the local police in an incident that mirrored the events in the play. The Search for Meaning: Aboriginal Perspectives — Caroline Jones presents an exploration of the contrast between Aboriginal and western perspectives with Mary Graham, an elder of the Kombumerri people and lecturer in Aboriginal Studies at Queensland University. Awaye: National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Celebration — NAIDOC's coordinators in Alice Springs talk about the events planned. Ursula Raymond looks at the history of NAIDOC from its origins in the 1930s as a one-day celebration to a week-long event. As well, Awaye previews the second World Indigenous Youth Conference in Darwin. More than 3000 indigenous youth are expected to gather to discuss cultural and political issues. Songs and Stories of Australia: Brian Hungerford and Bob Maza — Celebrating the tradition of storytelling as an essential part of both the Aboriginal cultures and the Celtic heritage. Brian and Bob share their favourite stories, traditional and contemporary. ABC FM Stereo, Wed July 7, 7.05 p.m.

Music of the Pitjantjatjara People — Songs and music recorded at a traditional gathering in Ernabella in the far north of South Australia. The program gives a unique insight into the music of Aboriginal culture. ABC FM Stereo, Wed July 7, 11 p.m.

Cranial Pursuits: Men and Women's Brains — Takes up the controversial subject of differences in the brains of men and women. It also looks at differences between homosexual and heterosexual men. ABC Radio National, Fri July 9, 11.05 a.m.

The Making of Christine — the story of how a man became a woman. Christopher had grown up with an uneasy feeling about himself. He married, had children and then separated. This documentary captures Christopher before and after the operation that changed his sex and his life. ABC Radio National, Sun July 11, 8.20 p.m.

Awaye — Visit Darwin and follow the issues discussed at the second World Indigenous Youth Conference and talk to indigenous artists from around the world. ABC Radio National, Mon July 12, 10.05 a.m. and 8.05 p.m.

An evening with Kev Carmody — A special Songs and Stories of Australia concert with one of Australia's leading singer/songwriters. Kev talks about his life and sings his marvellous songs. ABC FM Stereo, Wed July 14, 7.05 p.m.
