Sorry Day in Canberra

CANBERRA — A variety of events were held here in the days leading up to national Sorry Day on May 26.
The biggest was the "Coming Together" event at Commonwealth Park on May 24, to honour the "stolen generations". The day included a mini "sea of hands", Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander displays and community stalls. A free concert featured performances by local Aboriginal artists and the band Goanna. About 1000 people attended.
The Jabiluka Action Group and Green Left Weekly both held information stalls, which attracted a lot of interest. The JAG stall gathered more than 100 signatures in support of the Mirrar people's campaign against ERA's planned uranium mine on their traditional land in the NT.
A formal ceremony was held at Parliament House on Sorry Day where "sorry books" were handed to representatives of the stolen generations.
