Sydney University Resistance club takes off

SYDNEY — The Resistance Club at Sydney University has started the year with a bang with close to 100 people joining during orientation week.
Since then, around 30 people have attended club meetings regularly, and 40 attended a special meeting on March 19 where national coordinator of Action in Solidarity with Indonesia and East Timor, Max Lane, and international representative of the People's Democratic Party in Indonesia, Edwin Gozal, spoke about the current economic and political crisis in Indonesia.
The event helped to publicise the , April 10-13, in Sydney. Around 20 students have already registered for the Asia Pacific Solidarity Conference in Sydney at Easter (see ad on page 19).
Resistance has also helped organise events in defence of native title, to stop the Jabiluka uranium mine and in support of abortion rights and public education.
New member Nam-hee Kim told Green Left Weekly she was attracted to Resistance because of the variety of campaigns and activities it takes part in. "Everyone can relate to at least one. It is a great way to get involved and get organised to change the world."
