Since Israel’s July-August military offensive against the Gaza strip, Venezuela has sent 50 tonnes of food and medicine to Palestine.
On November 2, the Venezuelan government sent its third shipment of aid to Palestine as part of the measures ordered by President Nicolas Maduro to help Palestinians after Israel’s war.
The shipment was sent by plane and consists of 10.3 tonnes of food and medicines.
Palestinian ambassador in Venezuela Linda Sobeh Ali went to the Caracas airport to thank the 25-person delegation that will also fly to Palestine to talk with 100 Palestinians who will study medicine in Venezuela.
The Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip in July and August killed about 2000 people, mostly civilians. It destroyed a large part of Gaza’s infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and a power plant. About 70 Israelis were killed during the offensive, mostly soldiers.
Since the offensive ended, Venezuela has sent about 50 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Palestine. Caracas has also said it will help rebuild Gaza.
Since former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took office in 1999, Venezuela and Palestine have maintained strong ties. The Chavez government cut all diplomatic ties with Israel in 2009 in protest against Israel’s brutal Operation Cast Lead war on Gaza.
