Woodford: The Festival — This unique folk festival, held at Maleny in Queensland in late December and early January, offers viewers highlights of the very best in national and international folk music, including such artists as Rory McLeod, John Williamson, The Backsliders and The Mills Sisters. Soweto — The first part of a three-part series on the history of South Africa's largest "township". The series combines personal photographs, archival footage and interviews with ordinary Sowetans. The first episode looks at the birth of Soweto and how the policy of apartheid affected residents in the 1950s. SBS, Sunday, February 23, 11.10pm.

The Long War — A documentary about the crucial years in occupied Ireland's history, 1969-72. SBS, Sunday, February 23, midnight.

Genetic Time Bomb — A frightening documentary which a crisis that seriously threatens the global food system — the threat of genetic erosion in the world's seed supply. SBS, Monday, February 24, 5pm.

Frontline — Premiere of the new series. Make the most of this show while the ABC remains as it is. Can you imagine such a funny, incisive and accurate portrayal of commercial TV "current affairs" being produced once the ABC's programming is "outsourced" to commercial production companies? ABC TV, Monday, February 24, 8pm.

We Children of the 20th Century — Director and ex-prisoner Vitali Kanevski interviews street kids and young prison inmates in St Petersburg after the collapse of "communism". SBS, Monday, February 24, 11.20pm.

Lethal Metal — An investigation of the smuggling of radioactive metals out of Russia into western Europe. The trade involves big risks but even bigger money for the "businessmen" who organise it. The program visits some of the victims of radiation poisoning and the base in northern Russia, where over 100 nuclear submarines are waiting to be disarmed and decommissioned. SBS, Tuesday, February 25, 8.30pm.

Timeframe: Citizens at Last? — After 94 petitions to federal parliament and a 10-year campaign by Aborigines, the Australian people voted in 1967 to grant Aborigines full constitutional rights. ABC TV, Thursday, February 27, 8.30pm.

Over the Rainbow — A series that traces the struggle and gains of the gay and lesbian civil rights movement in the US. ABC TV, Thursday, February 27, 9.30pm.

Movie: A Man Escaped (1956) — When Resistance fighter Fontaine is condemned to death by the Nazis, he puts his ingenious escape plan into action. SBS, Thursday, February 27, 11.10pm.
