BRITAIN: Asylum-seeker attempts to set himself alight

December 8, 2004
Issue

On November 26, an asylum seeker doused himself in petrol inside the British Home Office's immigration headquarters, in front of a long queue of asylum seekers. He said that he was going to set himself alight. Police officers guarding the centre wrestled him to the ground before he was able to do so. He was arrested, and taken away. The Home Office has refused to reveal any more details about the incident.
